IBM advocates for open innovation in corporate machine learning

At VB Transform 2024, International Business Machines' Cox presented a persuasive case for collaborative development in corporate machine learning. Cox, VP of machine learning frameworks and leader at the collaborative research center, emphasized the significance of collaboration in technological advancement, especially in the present artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The IBM executive emphasized the multifaceted essence of openness in AI, questioning the two-dimensional understanding of the principle. He observed the burgeoning community of transparent systems from multiple providers, including industry leaders, research centers, and governments.
Nevertheless, he voiced concerns about the quality of openness in various AI language systems, observing that certain models provide little more than a "bag of numbers" devoid of clarity in their development processes.
